Discussion on Child-Friendly Grama Panchayats – Mysuru

Purpose: Discussion on the Concept of Child-Friendly Grama Panchayats

Child Rights Trust participated in a consultation at SIRD, Mysuru, on developing the concept of Child-Friendly Grama Panchayats in Karnataka. The initiative builds upon the successful experience of Child Rights Grama Sabhas and aims to strengthen child participation and child-friendly governance at the Gram Panchayat level.

During the discussion, CRT shared its experiences in conceptualizing and promoting Child Rights Grama Sabhas, including capacity building, documentation, and collaboration with the RDPR Department. Representatives from SIRD, ICDS, Education, Social Welfare Departments, and NGOs contributed their perspectives and suggestions.

The consultation resulted in the development of a preliminary concept framework and training plan for key stakeholders. Further follow-up discussions are planned to finalize and take forward the initiative.

Media Workshop on Child Rights for Journalists – Mangaluru

Purpose: Training of Media Personnel on Child Rights

Child Rights Trust participated in a media workshop on child rights organized by UNICEF and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Mysore, at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Around 45 media professionals attended the programme.

The workshop featured sessions by UNICEF representatives, journalism faculty, and NGO partners. A session on Child Rights Frameworks and Legislation was conducted, covering the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Government of India commitments, and key child protection laws and policies. Practical field experiences and case studies were shared to encourage responsible and child-sensitive reporting.

The participants actively engaged in discussions on issues such as child marriage, child labour, trafficking, child sexual abuse, education, and child protection. The programme helped strengthen the understanding of child rights among media professionals and encouraged them to promote children’s issues through informed reporting.
